Mary Kay® is a trusted global name in makeup and skin care products with an independent sales force of more than 2.6 million beauty consultants worldwide.

Known for its inspirational, success-oriented national seminars, Mary Kay determined the need to explore alternate satellite delivery methods to get their corporate sales messaging out to thousands of Mary Kay Beauty Consultants across the country. Their challenge to Splash Media’s creative and technical team was, “To successfully conceive, produce and distribute an engaging and informative two-hour Satellite Education Event LIVE! to more than 150 Cinemark Theatres.

Solution

With screenings set to show in Cinemark Theatres, Splash Media devised a concept that would creatively enhance the “movie-going” experience; Mary Kay executives championed the proposal and contracted Splash to move forward.
The revolutionary event rolled out LIVE! without a hitch on Valentine’s Day morning, 2009, beaming via satellite to a nationwide audience of more than 30,000. At each movie theatre, a slide show featuring Mary Kay trivia filled the screen, echoing the familiar style of the pre-shows seen in movie theatres today. A 1950’s style concession cartoon was recreated to lively animation of dancing Mary Kay cosmetics inviting the audience to sing-a-long, “Let’s all earn a pink Caddy.” And an exciting montage of famous women in film, culminating in an emotional film clip of Mary Kay herself, made them laugh, cry and cheer. These pre-produced production packages, carefully created to reinforce the Mary Kay brand, were conceived as an entertaining warm-up to the educational and training segments that followed. National Sales Directors made their presentations LIVE throughout the two-hour event standing before custom-created Mary Kay virtual sets in our Splash Studios. Splash Media’s Emmy-Award winning production team creatively merged these live action educational segments with pre-produced packages (an animated intermission featuring a rousing Mary Kay “Gem Race” in the style of dot races used at sporting events) and bits of fun like door-prize giveaways! As the satellite signal was beamed across the country, the reaction from the Mary Kay audience was immediately enthusiastic – congratulatory texts and emails lit up the faces of the Mary Kay executives in our studios throughout the broadcast.
